East London boxing trainer Mzamo ‘Chief’ Njekanye has vowed that his vastly-talented fighter Azinga ‘Golden Boy’ Fuzile is going to be unstoppable once again.
Njekanye and Fuzile once formed a brilliant team before the boxer left him to join Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan’s Hot Box Gym in Johannesburg. However, Fuzile has since returned to Njekanye in an effort to rekindle the spark they once had. Fuzile ditched Nathan and returned to Njekanye in February.
Njekanye is preparing Fuzile for his fight against Martin Ward from the United Kingdom. This duel whose date is yet to be confirmed is going to be an International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-lightweight clash for the mandatory spot. The winner will get an opportunity to clash with whoever wins between Tajikistan boxer Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov and Japanese opponent Kenichi Ogawa, who are going to square up for the vacant IBF junior-lightweight title. The title became vacant after American boxer Joseph Diaz lost it on the scales on the eve of his fight against Rakhimov in February.
“The preparations are good. I’m so delighted once more to be part of the preparations. The Golden Boy, things are going well for him in terms of the preparations. Fortunately, there is that bond. We will try to regain his form and bring back that system of working with Chief. If you see the boy with Chief you will see that there is a link, something people call chemistry. We are working on that. Once we get that chemistry back, the boy will be unstoppable.”
The 24-year-old Fuzile, who is a former South African featherweight champion with 14 wins, only lost once in his career. That was an eighth round stoppage loss to Rakhimov in an IBF junior-lightweight eliminator at the Orient Theatre in East London in September 2019.
