A Boxing Indaba, which is meant to help revive the fistic sport in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro is underway at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha.
The two-day indaba, which started on Thursday morning and will end on Friday, is the initiative of the NelsonMandela Bay Municipality in partnership with Nelson Mandela Bay boxing stakeholders and Boxing South Africa (BSA).
The Nelson Mandela Bay region, which produced South African champions in the past, has lagged behind in recent years.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Metro is now looking at long term goals to develop, support boxing and boxers.
Meanwhile, Rumble Africa Promotions (RAP) is going to stage a tournament at the Boardwalk Hotel and Casino in Gqeberha Sunday, 25 April.
The tournament is going to be headlined by an International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight elimination bout between unbeaten East London boxer Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga and Christian ‘The Bomb’ Araneta from the Philippines.
The winner of this fight is going to challenge current IBF junior-flyweight champion Felix Alvarado from Nicaragua.
