South African billionaire Patrice Motsepe has officially been confirmed as the new president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The confirmation was made at the 43rd CAF Congress in Rabat, Morocco, on Friday. Motsepe is the first CAF president from Anglophone Africa.
Motsepe became the only presidential candidate after Ahmed Yahya from Mauritania, Senegalese Augustin Senghor and Jacques Anouma from Ivory Coast withdrew from the race last week. The 59-year-old Motsepe’s four-year term as CAF president will come to an end in 2025.
