Chippa United coach Daniel ‘Dance’ Malesela is unhappy with how his players acquitted themselves during the Chilli Boys’ 2-2 draw with a 10-man Swallows FC in a DStv Premiership match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha on Saturday.
Malesela believes that his players should have done better, especially after Swallows striker Ruzaigh Gamildien was red carded in the second half. Anthony Laffor and Augustine Kwem scored for the Chilli Boys while Kgaogelo Sekgota and Gamildien netted for the Dube Birds.
“Look, I’m disappointed with a whole lot of things. I’m disappointed we gave away two goals in the first half just because we were caught on the ball and twice for that matter, which was not right,” Malesela said.
“We continued doing that, I don’t know why people can’t easily pass. Here we are 2-2, we are on top of these guys, they get a red card and we relax. Sometimes when you put in substitutes you expect more energy.”
The former Manning Rangers, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates defender stressed that his boys could have done better in an effort to make sure that the Chilli Boys move out of the danger zone.
“Goals, mistakes we made, bad defending. People wait for the ball to come to them, that’s immature. Something is not on, maybe people are looking ahead for the long break. We must prioritise properly. Different period would have been different stories,” Malesela said.
Meanwhile, Swallows coach Brandon Truter decried his team’s display after they had left 2-0 only to give away the lead and return home with a point.
“It was game of two halves. I’m disappointed with the results, having a 2-0 lead and blowing it away it’s a bit disappointing. We had the three points, mistakes in defence and Chippa punished us,” Truter said.
“Scoring two goals, is something to be happy about. It’s a point away from home, we will take it. Individual mistakes, over confidence, if you don’t take the chances, you get punished.”
Truter insisted that there was nothing wrong with match referee Olani Kwinda giving Swallows top goal scorer Gamildien a red card in the second half.
“I’m not gonna argue with the referee. Emotions were high. This is an emotional game. Next two games are going to be tough without him,” Truter said.
