Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker is looking at a good finish at the end of the season as Stellies visit Kaizer Chiefs in a DStv Premiership encounter at the FNB Stadium in Nasrec on Tuesday (17h00).
The former AmaZulu and University of Pretoria coach starts the final push hoping for a win over Amakhosi.
“Obviously, 10 games to go to the business end of the season. Important phase for the club against Chiefs. We have come off some solid performances in our previous fixtures,” Barker said.
“Really positive mood around the camp. We want to finish the final third of the season on a really strong note. We believe we can do that. There is still an opportunity for a top-eight position.
“That obviously we need to get points as soon as possible to put ourselves to challenge Chiefs away. They come from two positive results against (Orlando) Pirates and (Wydad) Casablanca.”
Barker is confident that the team from the Cape Winelands are capable of returning home with three points after meeting Chiefs.
“We are a team capable of beating anybody at any given time as long as we play to our full potential. We are going into the game with big confidence that we can put in a big performance and give ourselves a big chance of getting maximum points,” Barker said.
Stellies are 12th on the log with 22 points off 20 matches while Amakhosi are ninth with 23 points from 19 games.
Meanwhile, log-leaders Mamelodi Sundowns visit Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane at 15h00.
