Chippa United have acted quickly to replace fired coach Dan Malesela, who was axed after the Chilli Boys’ 5-1 drubbing by Maritzburg United on Saturday, with relatively unknown Siyabulela Gwambi.
Zwide-born Gwambi will get a baptism of fire when he leads the Chilli Boys in their next game, which is against log-leaders Mamelodi Sundowns at Mdantsane’s Sisa Dukashe Stadium in East London on Monday, 12 April.
Gwambi succeeds Malesela, who was sacked after he collected four points from a possible 24.
The Chilli Boys last won when they clobbered Black Leopards 3-0 in Thohoyandou on 23 January. Thereafter, the Chilli Boys played eight DStv Premiership matches – drawing four and losing four.
Malesela, however, took the Chilli Boys to the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup where they have an away date with GladAfrica Championship Pretoria Callies.
Meanwhile, the Chilli Boys have appointed controversial Belgian coach Luc Eymael as their technical adviser.
The Chilli Boys are going to consult their partners, sponsors and supporters regarding Eymael’s appointment. They will also seek a clearance from the South African Football Association (SAFA).
