It’s a clash, which pits teams from opposite ends of the DStv Premiership standings as struggling Chippa United take on log-leaders Mamelodi Sundowns at Mdantsane’s Sisa Dukashe Stadium in East London on Monday (15h00).
The Chilli Boys, who are 15th on the Premiership table, have their backs against the wall and are desperate for three points in their quest to climb up the ladder. But they face a Sundowns side out to continue with their unbeaten run in the Premiership.
And Chilli Boys forward. Anthony Laffor, a former Sundowns player, believes that the team from Gqeberha have players who can do the job against the Brazilians.
“The mood is very high in the camp. The game is important, we really want to win. Our rhythm is not lost yet. We need to deliver the necessary results. We’ve got a lot of experience in the team. The most important thing is saving the team,” Laffor said.
The Liberian expects the Tshwane giants to come to them, especially after Friday’s CAF Champions League group stages loss to CR Belouizdad from Algeria.
“They just lost a game. They are gonna come hard on us. We got to be professional. We must do something to shock the big gun,” Laffor said.
Meanwhile, Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena expects a tough clash against his former club.
“We are playing Chippa on the back of a loss. The mood is sombre in the camp, feeling of unhappiness. Preparing for Chippa is very, very difficult because of the change in leadership,” Mokwena said.
