Former world champion Simphiwe ‘Chain Reaction’ Konkco’s opponent for his next fight has been changed.
Konkco is set to face Filipino boxer Jomar Caindog at the Booysens Boxing Gym in Johannesburg on Saturday, 22 May, at a tournament, which is going to be promoted by Cyril Lehong’s Uppercut Promotions.
Initially, the former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) strawweight champion was scheduled to fight against ArAr Andales also from the Philippines.
Konkco last fought when he lost to erstwhile World Boxing Council (WBC) mimimumweight champion Chayaphon Moonsri, who is also known as Wanheng Menayothin, in October 2019.
This is the same Uppercut Promotions tournament where Hekkie Budler will face Jonathan Almacen from the Philippines.
Budler last fought during his loss to Hiroto Kyoguchi in December 2018. The five-time world champion was due to fight in Secunda in March, but his bout got cancelled after Hamidu Kwata from Tanzania failed to make the weight.
Meanwhile, Caindog has 11 wins (four knockouts), two defeats and a draw compared to Konkco’s 19 victories (seven stoppages) and six losses.
