Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt says he is still proud of his players even though they blew a 2-0 lead and drew 2-2 with Bloemfontein Celtic in a DStv Premiership at the Dr Petrus Rantlai Molemela Stadium in Mangaung on Saturday.
Chiefs raced to a 2-0 lead through goals by Happy Mashiane and Mulomowandau Mathoho before the quarter hour mark. But they failed to hold on to their lead and allowed Phunya Sele Sele to claw their way back into the match.
Neo Maema and Victor Letsoalo scored to make sure that Celtic earned a point from the game.
The draw hurt Amakhosi as they remain outside the top-eight bracket with five matches to go before they end the season. Chiefs have won six, drawn 11 and lost eight.
“Great performance again. It was a good performance on Wednesday when we lost 1-0, good performance again. The old Achilles of our team is defending. We had better chances, more than enough to win the game,” Hunt said.
“I’m proud of the players. They give me their all, that’s the most important thing. They are trying, they are working hard.”
Hunt was forced to make changes during the match where Daniel Akpeyi, Mathoho and Mashiane had to be replaced after picking up injuries.
“Daniel has a concussion, Tower has a groin and Mashiane had a bad kick on his ankle. The whole season we have been making forced changes,” Hunt said.
