Bloemfontein Celtic came from behind to beat Chippa United 2-1 in a DStv Premiership fixture at Mdantsane’s Sisa Dukashe Stadium in East London on Tuesday evening.
Neo Maema and Mandla Mabena netted for Phunya Sele Sele in the second half after Mduduzi Sibeko had put the Chilli Boys in the lead seven minutes before half time.
Celtic dominated from the first whistle and were unlucky when Harris Tchilimbou’s attempt hit the crossbar with Chilli Boys goalkeeper Ismail Watenga well beaten. Watenga made numerous saves after that.
The Chilli Boys’ performance improved after the 20th minute mark and they took the lead after Sibeko rifled home in the 38th minute.
Celtic started the second half with more purpose and nearly scored in the 47th minute. However, Tchilimbou’s attempt went over the crossbar.
Maema equalised for Celtic in the 66th minute following poor defending by the Chilli Boys rearguard. The goal spurred Celtic on and Mabena netted the winner in the 75th minute after yet another poor show by the Chilli Boys defence.
The win took Celtic from 11th to 10th spot on the Premiership standings while the Chilli Boys are 15th.
