South African national Under-23 coach David Notoane has named a 25- member squad, which will play three matches in the United Arab Emirates in June.
The matches form part of the national Under-23s’ preparations for the Tokyo Olympic Games taking place from 22 July until 8 August.
Notoane’s team face Brazil, Korea Republic and Argentina in a tournament, which starts on 5 June and ends six days later.
“The forthcoming camp in Dubai is a camp that kick starts our preparations for the Olympic Games. But at the same time we’re looking into bringing our foreign-based players to see what they could bring into the group in terms of increasing the level of our quality and addressing key challenging positions,” Notoane said.
“We hope that we’ll get all the players that we require to integrate into this preparation camp going to Dubai to play games against Brazil, Korea and Argentina, which should give us a very good measure as an objective to the level of our players in terms of readiness to do well at the Olympics later in July.”
At least 11 overseas-based players are part of Notoane’s team for the Dubai trip.
Meanwhile, the Under-23s face Japan at the Tokyo Stadium on 22 July then play against France at the Saitana Stadium and play their final group stage match against Mexico at the Sapporo Dome on 28 July.
