Bafana Bafana assistant coach Helman Mkhalele and the senior national team’s goalkeeper trainer Lucky Shiburi are out of isolation.
The former Orlando Pirates teammates isolated a day before the beginning of the COSAFA Cup tournament in Gqeberha after COVID-19 testing done in the Bafana camp last week.
Doctor Tshepo Molobi confirmed on Thursday that indeed Mkhalele and Shiburi have completed a 10-day isolation.
“The two coaches have undergone the mandatory isolation period, which is a full 10 days and have been cleared to de-isolate starting today,” Molobi, who is Bafana’s team doctor, said.
“In actual fact, we have done rapid tests on them. That also cleared them. Of course, we have the issue of residual symptoms here and there. We are giving them treatment for that. From a medical perspective in line with the national guidelines anyone who has completed the full 10 days of isolation is deemed non-infectious and can then de-isolate and integrate into society. That’s the approach we are taking with them.”
Meanwhile, Molobi has reiterated that he’s impressed with COSAFA Cup organisers in as far as health protocols are concerned.
“We have been quite impressed with how the tournament organisers have really taken pains to make sure that measures are in place to mitigate against the spread. This is so to speak a bubble. Teams were restricted to their hotel accommodation. From there to the training facilities and back at the hotel. The same goes for match days,” Molobi said.
