South African Under-23 national team coach David Notoane has once again spoken out about the challenges they encounter at the Olympic Village in Tokyo, Japan.
COVID-19 has continued to disturb Notoane’s preparations for the Tokyo Olympics.
“Preparations have been very, very difficult, very tough. We experienced the full might of COVID-19, ” Notoane said.
“Third wave was picking up when we came back from Egypt. Unfortunately, we came to Tokyo, probably experienced the worst of COVID-19. We lost players, two players and a staff member in isolation.”
The former SuperSport United and Santos goalpoacher is fully aware of the task at hand as they open the Olympic Games with a clash against the hosts Japan on Thursday (13h00).
“It is really tough. We have to pick ourselves up. Japan is before us. It’s gonna be war. We are in a huge disadvantage against a team that is highly athletic. We have to find a way to escape a guillotine,” Notoane said.
