Tatjana Schoenmaker won South Africa’s first medal at the Tokyo Olympics in Japan early on Tuesday morning.
Schoenmaker came second behind 17-year-old American Lydia Jacoby in the 100 metre breaststroke final at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre. Jacoby won in 1:04,95 while Schoenmaker finished in 1:05,22.
The 24-year-old Schoenmaker is an Olympic record holder in 100m breaststroke after clocking 1:04,82 in the heats on Sunday.
