Sharadene Fortuin from Seymour in the Eastern Cape shook off ring rust and won the South African female bantamweight title.
The former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) female bantamweight champion, who last fought in August 2018, dethroned Melissa Miller when she outpointed her at the Booysens Boxing Gym in Johannesburg on Sunday evening.
This was Eldorado Park-based Miller’s second loss this year having been beaten by Simangele Hadebe in Secunda in March.
This was also the second time Fortuin, who is trained by Harry Ramogoadi-Manaka at the VIP Boxing Academy in Benoni, defeated Miller. Her first win over Miller was in Strand in 2014.
Sunday’s tournament was promoted by the Gauteng Boxing Promoters Association (GBPA).
