Booysens Boxing Gym in Johannesburg is fast becoming a venue of choice as it continues to host tournaments month after month.
Boxing action will return to the venue when Uppercut Promotions stages its second tournament ever on Sunday, 10 October.
Former world champion Simphiwe ‘Noxhaka’ Konkco is set to fight against Jonathan Almacen from the Philippines in a 10-round bout.
Initially, Tsolo-born Konkco was scheduled to face another Filipino Clyde Azarcon. But the opponent had to be changed after Uppercut Promotions encountered problems with Azarcon’s handlers.
Almacen will be making his first visit to South Africa since losing to former world champion Hekkie Budler in May.
This is going to be Konkco’s first fight in two years as he last fought when he lost to former World Boxing Council (WBC) minimumweight champion Chayaphon Moonsri also known as Wanheng Menayothin Kaiyanghada in October 2019.
Meanwhile, unbeaten Hedda Wolmarans is set to test her fistic skills against Chiedza Homakoma from Zimbabwe.
Wolmarans, who has won all her six fights, stopped Raider Muleba in Uppercut Promotions’ debut tournament in May this year.
Going by the moniker ‘The Queen Tiger’, Homakoma stopped her opponents in her two fights this year.
Homakoma, who was born in the Namibian capital Windhoek, has won five times with four knockouts, a loss and two draws.
