AmaZulu coach Benni McCarthy believes that his players played well during their 1-1 draw with Kaizer Chiefs at King’s Park in Durban on Saturday.

It looked like Usuthu were going to walk away with the three points until match referee Jelly Chavani awarded Amakhosi a penalty in added time.

Keagan Dolly netted the penalty to cancel Usuthu’s lead, which had come through Luvuyo Memela’s in the second half.

“It was a fantastic performance from the boys. You can’t falter them,” the 2020/21 Coach of Season award winner said.

“We said if we marginalise our mistakes, if we don’t give them give-aways they won’t get into this game because they didn’t have quality. They didn’t have the quality to open us up, to break us through and create good goal scoring opportunities. They were very defensive.”

Usuthu are eighth on the Premiership standings after collecting seven points in the six matches they have played while Amakhosi are 12th with six points from the same number of games.
