Boxing promoter Cyril Lehong is excited after Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma amended regulations to allow fans into sporting events.
According to the Government Gazzette dated 11 October 2021, sporting events at indoor venues are allowed to take 750 and less spectators while 2000 or less are allowed at outdoor venues.
“This is exciting. You know that I’ve got a tournament coming up. It will be very exciting to have spectators back at our events. I’m going to engage Boxing South Africa and find out more about this,” Lehong said.
Lehong has lined up a tournament, which is going to be held at the Booysens Boxing Gym in Johannesburg, on Sunday, 24 October.
A 10-round bout between former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) minimumweight champion Simphiwe Konkco and Jonathan Almacen from the Philippines will headline the tournament while Hedda Wolmarans faces Zimbabwean Chiedza Homakoma.
