Terrence Mashego expects a tough match when Bafana Bafana come up against Ethiopia in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the FNB Stadium in Nasrec, Johannesburg, on Tuesday (18h00).

The Cape Town City leftback made his national team debut when Bafana Bafana beat the Ethiopians 3-1 in Bahir Dar on Saturday.

“Those guys were not happy because they lost. I’m expecting a tough game. I know they now know our strengths and weaknesses. They will capitalise on our weaknesses,” Mashego said.

Having earned his first Bafana Bafana cap, Mashego has revealed that he will cherish that moment for many years to come.

“I believe that’s a moment I will forever cherish because that was my debut. Before the game I anticipated a tough game. International games are always tough, but what I noticed is that the experience I gained when I was playing CAF Confed games with TS Galaxy really played a big role because in some kind of way it prepared me for the kind of games,” Mashego said.

The 23-year-old former Rockets defender has said that making his Bafana Bafana debut was a big moment for him and he added that playing for the national team is what he has been preparing himself for for some time.

“When I joined Cape Town City last season I told myself that I wanted to play in the national team. Even when I got the call-up I was prepared, I wasn’t surprised at all,” he said.
