Chippa United chairman Siviwe ‘Chippa’ Mpengesi has had a Damascus moment and is a changed man, not a trigger-happy club owner anymore.

The Chilli Boys boss is calling for patience as the Gqeberha-based team are yet to set the football scene alight this season something which has forced some fans to believe that Mpengesi will fire coach Gavin Hunt.

However, Mpengesi has so far confounded his critics as he is showing patience, something which has been a rare trait in past seasons.

“We are now six games into the new season. So far, this season has been a mixed bag of fortunes. As you probably know we have only won one game, drawn two and lost three,” Mpengesi said.

“I will be the first to admit that this is not a pretty picture and those of you that are worried about this, are justified. But those of us who have been with the team since preseason and have seen what the coach and the technical team have been trying to drill into the boys, are not worried as those whose only interaction with the team has been through watching our games on television.”

Mpengesi has insisted that they have seen the hard work that is being done to make sure that the Chilli Boys start producing results thus he is not stressing.

“We have seen how the boys are responding to what the coaches want from them. This kind of commitment really warms our hearts and makes us very happy,” he said.

“We are confident that, very soon, our fortunes will change for the better. The coach has our full support. We want to see him and the players succeed. So I urge all of you to be patient. Patience is important as it is a prime mediator of success in any sport.”

Meanwhile, the Chilli Boys face Kaizer Chiefs in a DStv Premiership match at the FNB Stadium in Nasrec, Johannesburg, on Saturday.
