Puerto Rican Jonathan ‘La Bomba’ Gonzalez is the new World Boxing Organisation (WBO) junior-flyweight champion after he defeated Elwin Soto from Mexico by a split decision at Chuckansi Park, Fresno, in California, United States, on Sunday morning (South African time).
Gonzalez used his jab and right hook effectively to make sure that he dethroned Soto, who only started to fight later during the clash.
Two judges – Robert Hoyle (116-112) and Zachary Young (116-112) gave the fight to Gonzalez while Daniel Sandoval (116-112) thought Soto had succeeded in defending his title.
