The bright lights of New York are beckoning as one of South Africa’s finest boxers Azinga ‘Golden Boy’ Fuzile is set to fight in the United States next month.
Fuzile will be fulfilling his childhood dream of fighting for a world title when he collides with Japanese boxer Kenichi Ogawa in a vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-lightweight contest at the Hulu Theatre, Madison Square Garden, in New York City, United States, on Saturday, 27 November (Sunday, 28 November, South African time).
Fuzile earned the right to fight for the world title after he stopped Briton Martin Ward in Las Vegas in May.
Initially, Ogawa was set to clash with Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov from Tajikistan for the same title in the United Arab Emirates in August, but the fight got postponed after the Tajik picked up an injury.
Sensing that it was going to take longer for Rakhimov to recover from the injury, the IBF ordered the fight between Fuzile and Ogawa.
This fight is going to be on the undercard of the massive clash between world champion Teofimo Lopez from America and Australian George Kambosos Junior.
Lopez will be making the first defence of his World Boxing Association (WBA) ‘Super’, IBF, World Boxing Organisation (WBO) and The Ring lightweight crowns. Lopez defeated Vasiliy Lomachenko in October last year.
Meanwhile, the fight between Lopez aannd Kambosos pits two unbeaten boxers against each other.
Lopez has won all his 16 bouts with 12 of those via the short distance while Kamboo Jr has stopped 10 of his 19 victims.
