A 1-0 win over Zimbabwe at the FNB Stadium in Nasrec, Johannesburg, on Thursday evening left Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos both happy and dissatisfied.
Broos was happy that Bafana Bafana got the three points after playing the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Zimbabwe Warriors. However, the coach was not satisfied with his team’s performance during the match, which saw SuperSport United midfielder Teboho Mokoena scoring the only goal of the game.
“First of all, I’m a happy coach because we won. That was the most important thing. But the other side not satisfied with the performance,” Broos remarked.
“I think we played against an opponent who was aggressive. There was no movement in the team, I didn’t recognise my team. I don’t know why, really. We had a few chances. Again, happy that we won, but not satisfied with the performance.”
Though he lamented the number of chances they missed, Zimbabwe coach Norman Mapeza was happy with his boys’ performance.
“I think it was a good game of football. I’m very happy with my boys, they worked so hard. Unfortunately, we ended up on the losing note,” Mapeza said.
“There were some other moments where we dominated the game with some decent chances, first half and second half as well. But at the end of the day football is about goals. I’m happy with the performance of the boys, I’m proud of my boys.”
Bafana Bafana are going to play their final World Cup qualifier against Ghana away in Cape Coast on Sunday (21h00).
Currently, Bafana Bafana have collected 13 points from five games. On the other hand, the Black Stars are on 10 points in five matches.
Bafana Bafana have scored six goals and conceded once while the Black Stars have netted six times and leaked three. Bafana Bafana need to avoid defeat on Sunday.
