Two-time world champion Zolani ‘Last Born’ Tete is not going to face Filipino boxer Jelbirt ‘Panther’ Gomera anymore and is no longer fighting in a TLB Boxing Promotions tournament.
Tete, who was initially scheduled to face Gomera at Emnotweni Casino in Nelspruit on Saturday, 11 December, is set to clash against Iddi Mustafa Ally Said from Tanzania in a junior-featherweight 10 rounder at the Booysens Boxing Gym in Johannesburg on Sunday, 12 December.
The tournament where Tete will fight against Said is promoted by the Gauteng Boxing Promoters Association (GBPA). This is the same card where South African junior-lightweight champion Phila Mpontshane will defend his title against Sibusiso Zingange.
Meanwhile, Tete’s manager Mlandeli Tengimfene has shot down rumours that boxing legend Vuyani ‘The Beast’ Bungu is back with Tete as the boxer’s chief trainer.
Tengimfene insisted that the 54-year-old former International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-featherweight and International Boxing Organisation (IBO) featherweight champion has only been asked to help with fight strategy.
“The chief trainer is Andile Mofu and is assisted by Makazole Tete. The conditioner and strength coach is Thulasizwe Sifatyi. Vuyani Bungu has been roped in by me to fine tune in strategy and experience. He only came on Monday and it’s on as when needed basis,” Tengimfene said.
