Thulani ‘Evolution’ Mbenge has decided against signing a contract to fight against Ukrainian Eduard Skavynskyi in Russia.
Mbenge was set to face Skavynskyi at the KRK “Uralets” in Ekaterinburg on Saturday, 11 December. The two boxers were scheduled to fight for the World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver welterweight title.
“There is no fight in Russia. The deal wasn’t concluded because the people that side were giving us problems,” the two-time South African welterweight champion said.
“The money they offered me was the same as the purse I get here at home. They also wanted me to forfeit some of my rights. We rejected their contract even though they tried to entice us with a WBC Silver fight. I have worked very hard to be where I am. I’m rated sixth by the WBC.”
The former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) welterweight champion’s fight against the unbeaten Skavynskyi was going to be staged by German Titov’s RCC Boxing Promotions.
