Cape Town City won 3-2 over Maritzburg United at the Cape Town Stadium in the Mother City on Tuesday evening.
Mduduzi Mdantsane rounded off Team of Choice Marcel Engelhardt before netting for the Citizens in the 11th minute after capitalising on Alfred Ndengane’s blunder.
Soon after the restart, the Citizens pressed hard for a second goal, which came through Fagrie Lakay in the 50th minute.
Team of Choice’s Lelethu Skelem, formerly with Stellenbosch FC, halved the deficit in the 70th minute.
Tashreeq Morris restored the Citizens’ two-goal lead when he headed in to make it 3-1 after a curler by Lakay from the right in the 82nd minute.
Once again, the Team of Choice fought back and were rewarded with a goal from Bongokuhle Hlongwane three minutes from full-time.
Meanwhile, the Team of Choice played the match under protest after Citizens player cards were stolen when their team manager Moenier Davids’ car was broke into.
