Sibusiso Zingange swears by his late father’s grave that he is going to dethrone South African junior-lightweight champion Phila Mpontshane when they square up against each other on Sunday.

The 28-year-old Zingange from Boksburg challenges Mpontshane at the Booysens Boxing Gym in Johannesburg. This is Mpontshane’s fifth defence of the title he won when he defeated Aphiwe Mboyiya on December 2016.

“I’m done preparing for this fight. I know Phila as a great human being. I know him as a great champion, however he has reached the end of the road. I swear on my late father’s grave that I’m going to beat Phila on Sunday,” Zingange said.

Mpontshane, 31, left his Mdantsane home to set up camp in Johannesburg last week. But Zingange doesn’t believe that Mpontshane’s early arrival in Johannesburg is going to help him.

“I don’t think that is going to help him win this fight. For me, there’s no difference whether you arrive early or not. One thing I know is that he will return to the Eastern Cape without the belt, mark my words,” Zingange said.
