With a number of boxing bouts being floored by COVID-19, Xolisani ‘Nomeva’ Ndongeni is now more concerned about the dreaded disease than with Israel ‘Money Machine’ Kam’mwamba from Malawi whom he meets on Saturday.

The two-time South African champion, who clashes with the Malawian at the Ingwenyama Lodge in White River, is extra careful as he doesn’t want to contract COVID-19.

“I’m worried about COVID-19. I think many of us are concerned because it has resulted to the cancellation of many bouts. Things are difficult because of it and sometimes people don’t even know where they contracted it,” the 31-year-old Ndongeni said.

Back to the fight, Kam’mwamba from Blantyre in Malawi is making his second visit to South Africa. He lost to Sydney Maluleka on his first visit to South Africa in November 2018.

“I have seen him before and I’m ready for him. He doesn’t scare me. He’s short and I love that,” the former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) lightweight champion said.

The 27-year-old Kam’mwamba is a controversial figure having spent a week in police custody last year after he had beaten up three people in Chilomoni township. He escaped a prison sentence after he paid a fine.
