Fnitially scheduled to take place on Saturday, 8 August, Fighters Club Boxing Promotions’ next tournament has since been rescheduled to Saturday, 22 August, at the 5000-seater Grand Arena in Goodwood, Cape Town.
“Battle of the Island is officially moving to Saturday, 22 August 2026, and we are proud to announce that the event will now take place at the Grand Arena at GrandWest. This is not a step back. This is an upgrade,” a Fighters Club statement said on Monday.
“Together with our venue partners, stakeholders and sponsors, Fighters Club is taking this tournament to a bigger stage so that our fighters can be seen, celebrated and supported at the level they deserve.
“To the fighters and camps staying locked in and extending camp, thank you. Your discipline, patience and belief in the bigger picture does not go unnoticed. To our partners, sponsors and stakeholders, thank you for believing in Fighters Club and pushing us to go bigger and better.”
The tournament is going to be headlined by a vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) female flyweight title between South African champion Simangele ‘Smash’ Hadebe and Owethu Rula.
In another keenly-awaited fight, World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa female fluweight titlist, Sibulele Soboois, will come up against Asanda Simelane in a vacant African Boxing Union (ABU) SADC title contest.
