Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler reckons that the Citizens should have won by a bigger margin against Maritzburg United at the Cape Town Stadium in the Mother City on Tuesday evening.

The Citizens were given a scare before they beat the Team of Choice 3-2 after leading 2-0. The Team of Choice ended the match being the strongest side.

“Unfortunately, we don’t know how to protect the lead, which is obviously disappointing and worrying. The way we’re conceding, the way we’re dropping, the way we’re not pressurising,” Tinkler said.

The former Chippa United and SuperSport United coach insisted that they should have kept his former team under pressure and not give them space.

“The only way this team is gonna hurt you is with the ball behind. You gotta apply pressure. You gotta try press the first ball, but you are gonna drop early, we didn’t do that and that’s what ended up costing us two silly goals,” the former Bafana Bafana Bafana midfielder added.

“The way I look at it, chances that we missed, we could have had a big score. You gotta take your chances. The win was very, very important moving forward.”

The Team of Choice played the match under protest after the Citizens couldn’t produce players’ cards, which were stolen during a break in into their team manager Moenier Davids’ car on Tuesday.
