COVID-19 has struck again and has resulted in the cancellation of some bouts, which formed part of the TLB Boxing Promotions tournament scheduled for Ingwenyama Lodge in White River on Saturday.

The main bout of the tournament is off after Chris Thompson and his trainer Shannon Strydom tested positive for COVID-19. Thompson was going to face Namibian boxer Vikapita Meroro in an African Boxing Union (ABU) heavyweight title fight.

TLB Boxing Promotions boss Joyce Kungwane is, however, fortunate this time around as only three bouts have been affected by the pandemic unlike it was the case when she had to postpone her tournament last month after a number of positive COVID-19 cases.

“Only three bouts have been affected by COVID-19. At least, the tournament is going ahead,” Kungwane said on Friday morning.

This is the fourth recent tournament to be rocked by COVID-19. The pandemic affected Kungwane’s tournament last month as well as last weekend’s tournaments, which were staged by Golden Gloves and Rumble Africa Promotions.

Meanwhile, Xolisani ‘Nomeva’ Ndongeni fights against Malawian Israel ‘Money Machine’ Kam’mwamba in the main bout of the tournament.

The bout between Ndongeni and Kam’mwamba is an ABU junior-welterweight title fight scheduled for 12 rounds.
