Having last fought when he outpointed Luyanda Ntwanambe in Gqeberha in April 2021, veteran boxer Jackson Chauke is hoping to get more fights this year.
The South African and World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Global flyweight titlist has said that he needs action as age is no longer on his side.
“I need to get more fights. I was due to have defended my SA title on the 11th of December, but had an offer in Uzbekistan. I couldn’t go because of the travel ban. I’m busy, training very hard now,” the 36-year-old Chauke said.
Tembisa-based Chauke was going to fight against California-based Uzbek Hasanboy Dumastov in Uzbekistan. The 28-year-old Dumastov ended up fighting Mexican Jose Rivas whom he beat by a stoppage on 17 December.
Meanwhile, Chauke is rated number three by the WBO, sixth by both the World Boxing Council (WBC) and the International Boxing Federation (IBF).
The WBO belt is held by Japanese boxer Junto Nakatani with Mexican Julio Cesar Martinez holding the WBC title while Sunny Edwards from the United Kingdom is the IBF champion.
