Virat Kohli has stepped down as India Test captain just a day after his team lost 2-1 to the Proteas in a three-match series.
Kohli, who has been India Test captain for seven years, announced his retirement on Twitter on Saturday.
“Everything has come to a halt at some stage and for me as Test captain of India, it is now. I’ve done the job with absolute honesty and left nothing there,” Kohli wrote on Twitter.
“There have been many ups and also some downs along the journey, but never has there been a lack of effort or lack of belief. I have always believed in giving 120 percent in everything I do.”
The 33-year-old Kohli, who was born in Delhi, won 40 of the 68 matches he was involved in as India Test captain.
