Morocco came from behind and bundled Malawi out of the Africa Cup of Nations tournament with a 2-1 win over the Flames at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde on Tuesday evening.
A wonder strike by Gabadinho Mhango gave the Flames a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute. That was the Orlando Pirates striker’s third goal of the tournament after a brace he netted against Zimbabwe during the group stages.
The Flames led for the better part of the first 45 minutes until Morocco equalised through Youssef En-Nesryi on the stroke of half-time. The Atlas Lions took the lead after Achraf Hakimi scored with a powerful free kick 20 minutes before full-time.
