It’s anxious moments for Gqeberha boxer Thembani ‘Guitarman’ Okolo’s manager and trainer as the pugilist is nowhere to be found.
Okolo, who was due to challenge South African minimumweight champion Bangile Nyangani in Johannesburg on Thursday, has been missing since Friday last week. His handlers have been looking for him since and have so far failed to locate him.
“We have not found him yet. His brother called me saying they don’t know where he is. We are now worried about his safety. The guys are going to look for him at all the hospitals here,” Okolo’s manager Ndumiso Fina said on Tuesday morning.
Even Okolo’s trainer Mzwandile Sidina is worried about the whereabouts of the World Boxing Federation (WBF) Africa minimumweight titlist.
“He’s nowhere to be found and we are scared now. We really don’t know where he is. His phone is still off. I have been to his place numerous times, only his girlfriend and their kid are there. Even his girlfriend doesn’t know where he is. I’m worried, very worried,” Sidina said.
The 26-year-old Okolo was due to have flown to Johannesburg on Sunday so that he could do a COVID-19 test and pre-fight medical check up on Monday.
