Mamelodi Sundowns stretched their lead at the top of the DStv Premiership standings to 17 points after a 2-0 win over Chippa United at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on Monday evening.
The Brazilians’ first goal came from a Sandile Mthethwa deflection following an Andile Jali attempt on the stroke of half-time.
The goal came 20 minutes after the Chilli Boys were reduced to 10 men by match referee Philangenkosi Khumalo, who showed Siphesihle Mkhize a red card in the 24th minute following a crunch tackle on Thabiso Kutumela.
Sundowns’ new signing Teboho Mokoena, who was recruited from SuperSport United during the January transfer window, opened his Brazilians’ account when he netted the Tshwane giants’ second goal in the 87th minute.
The table-topping Brazilians have collected 47 points from 20 matches and have 17 more than second-placed Orlando Pirates, who have a game in hand.
