East London boxer Aphiwe ‘Swagger’ Mboyiya is set to challenge current South African lightweight champion Tshifhiwa Munyai from Makwarela in less than two months’ time.

Mboyiya’s clash against Munyai, who has defended his SA title twice since winning it in a fight against Siphosethu Mvula in March 2020, is going to be held in Mpumalanga on 8 April.

“I’m challenging Munyai in Mpumalanga in April. We got to know about this fight last month. Actually, we have always known that we would challenge Munyai as we are rated number one,” the 30-year-old Mboyiya, a former SA featherweight and junior-lightweight champion, said.

Mboyiya, who is trained by Kholisile Cengani, last fought when he defeated Bongani Mbiko at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC) last November. The 36-year-old Munyai, meanwhile, stopped Sanele Msimang in his last fight held at the Booysens Boxing Gym in Johannesburg in October.
