AmaZulu’s impotent attack is a source of their coach Benni McCarthy’s main concerns as they want to turn their season around.
The impotency of the Usuthu strike force was evident when they were held to a goalless draw by TS Galaxy in a DStv Premiership match at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Tuesday evening.
“Massive concern, that was my biggest shout when I came for the new season. That was the area where I wanted to build up, I wanted to strengthen,” the former Bafana Bafana goalpoacher said.
That they have only scored once in their last three matches across all competitions is proof enough that Usuthu have been struggling in front of goals.
“That was the area of concern because I knew that last season we did amazing as a group. From what we want to achieve you need players that are hungrier and that’s why I needed to strengthen that area of the pitch. It didn’t happen. That’s why we have 13 draws because we are stuck with what we have,” he said.
AmaZulu have scored 18 times and leaked 16 goals in the 21 Premiership matches they have played so far this season. They have won five matches, drawn 13 and lost three times.
They are seventh on the Premiership standings with 28 points – a far cry from their impressive performance which saw them finishing second at the end of last season.
