Veteran boxing trainer Loyiso Mtya is going to be in former world champion Zolani ‘Last Born’ Tete’s corner when the Mdantsane boxer fights in the United Kingdom next month.
Mtya is going to lead Tete into battle during his fight against Briton Jason Cunningham in an IBF International and Commonwealth junior-featherweight bout on Saturday, 11 June.
The erstwhile IBF junior-bantamweight and World Boxing Organisation (WBO) bantamweight champion’s relationship with Mtya, a former Boxing South Africa (BSA) director of operations, could best be described as on and off since 2015.
“The 11th of June is the tentative date for our fight against Cunningham,” Tete’s manager Mlandeli Tengimfene said on Monday.
This is going to be the 33-year-old Tete’s first fight in the UK since he was stopped by Filipino boxer Johnriel Casimero in a WBO bantamweight title contest in November 2019.
Meanwhile, the 32-year-old Cunningham from Yorkshire stopped Frenchman Terry Le Couviour in the sixth round last month.
