Two-time World Cup winner Andrew Symonds, who was 46 years old, died in a car accident in Queensland, Australia, on Saturday evening. 

Symonds, who was going to turn 47 on 9 June, was a sole passenger in then car, which crashed outside Townsville, Queensland. 

“Early information indicates shortly after 11pm the car was being driven on Hervey Range Road near Alice River Bridge when it left the roadway and rolled. Emergency services attempted to revive the 46-year-old driver and sole occupant, however, he died of injuries,” a police statement said. 

The former Australian cricketer won the 2003 World Cup in South Africa and the 2007 tournament in the West Indies. Born in Birmingham in the United Kingdom on 9 June 1975, Symonds played 28 Tests, 196 one day internationals (ODIs) and 14 Twenty20 matches for Australia.
