Experienced referee Victor Gomes is going to be among the match officials officiating at the FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar between 21 November and 18 December. 

Gomes, who officiated during the Africa Cup of Nations final between eventual winners Senegal and Egypt in February this year, is happy that he’s going to referee at the Qatar tournament. 

“I am extremely privileged to represent our country, my family and the association (SAFA) at the biggest sporting event in the world. I’m looking forward to going out and giving it our best, myself and my team,” Gomes said. 

Meanwhile, assistant referee Zakhele Siwela it also going to officiate at the World Cup finals. This is Siwela’s second successive World Cup tournament having been one of the officials at the 2018 showpiece in Russia. 

“This is great. Me and Gomes will continue working hard and we will continue to hoist the South African flag high,” Siwela said.
