Luvuyo Sizani has admitted that he could have done a lot better during his fight against Jackson Masamba as he retained his ABU SADC light-heavyweight title at the SABC’s Renaissance Centre in Auckland Park, Johannesburg, on Sunday.
After dominating throughout the fight, all the three judges nodded saying that Sizani did enough to retain his title. Ben Ncapai scored the fight 99-92 with Namhla Tyuluba and Mfundo Mvandaba scoring it 98-93 and 98-92 respectively.
“It was a good fight for me. I could have stopped him if we look at some of the blows I landed. However, I had to be careful because I hadn’t fought for some time. I didn’t want to pace myself and then end up getting tired. Sometimes I didn’t follow up after landing some nice blows,” Sizani, who travelled to Johannesburg by bus after missing his flight on Friday, remarked.
Before meeting Masamba on Sunday, the 27-year-old Sizani from Ilinge, Komani, last fought when he stopped Lebogang Moshitoa in the second round in March last year.
This was also the second time that Sizani, who is based in Somerset East, defeated Masamba from the Democratic Republic of Congo. He outpointed the 28-year-old Congolese in their first fight held at the Mdantsane Indoor Sport Centre in October 2019.
