TK Boxing Promotions boss Tshele Kometsi is planning to go all the way to the Supreme Court of Appeal in an effort to make sure that his suspension by Boxing South Africa (BSA) is declared invalid.
This follows after Tuesday’s court decision, which confirmed Kometsi’s suspension by BSA three months ago.
Kometsi’s troubles started after his bank card was allegedly used by some BSA officers last year something which led to the suspension of the organisation’s former chief financial officer Thabang Moses in February this year for allegedly sending a driver to withdraw R14 000 from the card. Moses resigned from BSA in May.
A four minutes and 48 seconds voice note, which made rounds in September last year suggested that after a withdrawal was made, the money was lying around at the BSA offices in Hatfield, Pretoria.
After he was suspended in June, the Gauteng Boxing Promoters Association (GBPA) chairperson successfully challenged his suspension at the BSA arbitration tribunal. Independent arbitrator Charl May ruled in Kometsi’s favour saying that the BSA board had no powers to suspend him.
BSA took the matter further and a court ruled that Kometsi’s suspension was valid. It was then that he decided to appeal against the court verdict.
“We went for the appeal today (Tuesday). The judge stayed the BSA suspension against me, which I had appealed. According the judge, I remain suspended. We are looking at taking the matter to the Supreme Court. Remember, we’ve got 15 days to lodge an appeal,” Kometsi said.
Meanwhile, acting BSA chief executive officer Erick Sithole has revealed that the disciplinary process against Kometsi is still on.
“This case is on-going. We will make a pronouncement soon,” Sithole revealed.
