Being inactive for two years would have dampened a boxer’s spirit and resolve, but that has not been the case with Phumelela ‘Truth’ Cafu.
Instead, the lad from Duncan Village in East London has had a very good year in 2022 having fought three times already. He stopped Filipino boxer Ben Mananguil and Tinashe Majoni from Zimbabwe while he drew with current South African flyweight champion Jackson Chauke.
Cafu is going to get into the ring for his fourth fight of the year as he clashes with Namibian Lazarus Namalambo in an eight-round bout at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC) this coming Sunday.
“I’m done with my preparations for this fight. I have watched one of his fights. He’s not a puncher, he’s a boxer. I’m a puncher and will be looking for a knockout,” Cafu remarked.
The 24-year-old Cafu comes up against Namalambo, who has done well since his third and last loss in May 2013. Namalambo, who is 32 years old, has a seven-fight unbeaten streak winning six and drawing once.
“There is nothing much in this fight. I’m going to win it by a knockout. I’m using Namalambo for my next fight, which is going to be in December even though I don’t know who my opponent would be,” Cafu, who has won six fights with stoppages and also registered three draws, said.
