Former South African champion Xolisani ‘Nomeva’ Ndongeni is back in East London to prepare for his upcoming fight against Apinun Khongsong from Thailand.

The erstwhile International Boxing Organisation (IBO) lightweight king clashes with the Thai boxer in Durban on Thursday, 17 November. Ndongeni, who arrived in East London from Johannesburg last weekend, is preparing for the fight under the watchful eye of his trainer Mzamo ‘Chief’ Njekanye.

“I’m already here in East London. I’m  preparing for my fight against  Khongsong. We will do all our fight preparations here in East London before going to Durban,” Ndongeni said.

This is the second time that the Johannesburg-based former South African junior-lightweight and lightweight titlist fights this year. He dominated Filipino boxer Reymond Yanong in Sandton, Johannesburg, in July.

Meanwhile, Khongsong’s last 12 fights ended in knockouts with him winning 10 and suffering two defeats in the process.

Khongsong, who failed to dethrone former World Boxing Association (WBA) ‘Super’ and International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-welterweight champion Josh Taylor from Scotland when he challenged him in September 2020, last went the distance during his victory over Filipino opponent Adam Diu Abdulhamid in August 2017.

A Bangkok resident, the 26-year-old Khongsong has stopped 17 of his 20 victims and has lost twice in his professional career.
