Boxing fans will have to wait a little longer before they can realise their dream of watching a fight between one-time world title hopeful Azinga ‘Golden Boy’ Fuzile and current South African lightweight champion Lusanda ‘Mexican’ Komanisi.
This is so because Fuzile’s trainer Mzamo ‘Chief’ Njekanye has dismissed rumours that his boxer was offered a contract to fight against Komanisi.
Also, the 26-year-old Fuzile is scheduled to face off with Rene Tellez Giron from Mexico in a vacant International Boxing Organisation (IBO) Intercontinental lightweight title contest in Durban on Sunday, 11 December.
“Firstly, that we were going to fight against Komanisi was all lies. Nobody approached us about a fight against Komanisi. These people have been talking among themselves, not with us. No one can boldly say he or she approached us about the fight. People must stop lying about my boxer,” Njekanye said.
“The only fight we know and we have signed for is against a Mexican boxer in Durban. The organisers of this approached us unlike the other people who kept talking to themselves instead of approaching us.”
Duncan Village-born Fuzile and Tellez Giron have a similar record having won 16 fights with 10 of those wins being knockouts against two losses.
Fuzile’s fight against the 23-year-old Tellez Giron is scheduled for the Moses Mabhida Stadium and is going to be promoted by Jacob Mnisi’s J4Joy Boxing Promotions.
This is the same tournament where reigning SA junior-welterweight champion Prince Dlomo will make the fourth defence of his title in a fight against Marcus Lebogo.
Rofhiwa Nemushungwa is also scheduled to feature in the bill as he fights against Namibian Fillipus Shaanika for the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) Pan-African bantamweight title.
Meanwhile, SA bantamweight champion Ronald Malindi will fight against Jorge Orozco Mendoza from Mexico in the same tournament.
Unbeaten Malindi and Mendoza will trade blows for the vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) bantamweight crown.
