Portuguese star forward Cristiano Ronaldo’s second stint at English Premier League side Manchester United came to an end on Tuesday.
The Red Devils announced on Tuesday evening that they had reached ‘mutual consent’ to let the 37-year-old Ronaldo, who scored 145 goals in 346 games, go.
Ronaldo’s relationship with the Old Trafford side soured after he criticised them heavily during an interview last week. Ronaldo rejoined the Red Devils from Italian Serie A side Juventus in August last year, 11 years after he had left them to join Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid.
“The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford,” a Man United statement said.
A statement from Ronaldo said: “Following conversation with Manchester United, we have mutually agreed to end our contract early. I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never change.”
