Mdantsane boxer Zolisa Batyi’s trainer Khangelani Jack is confident that his charge will have a triumphant home return from Limpopo on Saturday.
Batyi is currently in Limpopo where he is going to challenge reigning South African featherweight champion Jeff Magagane at the Ngoako Ramatlhodi Sports Complex in Seshego, Polokwane, on Friday evening.
“We made the weight easily. My boxer is in good shape and ready for the fight. We are here to reclaim what belongs to us,” Jack said.
Jack really needs a Batyi victory to atone for losing the national title to Magagane, who dethroned his boxer Asanda Gingqi at the Portuguese Hall in Turffontein, Johannesburg, in September. Magagane’s win meant that he became the first boxer to defeat Gingqi.
Meanwhile, this is the second time Batyi gets an opportunity to challenge for the same national featherweight title this year.
He first challenged for it and suffered a points loss to his stablemate Gingqi at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC) just over six months ago. Batyi goes to Friday’s fight with a professional record of six victories (four knockouts) and two defeats.
