The Proteas continued to struggle on the second day of the second Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Tuesday.
The South Africans only picked up two wickets on the day as the Australians continued to pile runs with their opener David Warner knocking 200 off 256 balls in his 100th Test match.
After punishing the South African bowlers, Warner retired with cramps and exhausition. Steven Smith chipped in with 85 runs from 161 deliveries. Warner and Smith shared a 239-run third wicket partnership.
At stumps, Australia were 386 for three with a lead of 197 runs. Travis Head (48) and Alex Carey (9) will continue to bat on Wednesday.
