South African junior-flyweight champion Mpumelelo Tshabalala has a doctor’s appointment on Tuesday to determine when he will be ready to start training following a recent car accident.
Tshabalala was involved in a car accident on his way back from his Dundee home in KwaZulu-Natal to Katlehong in Ekurhuleni on New Year’s day.
The accident ruined Tshabalala’s chance of making a second defence of his title against Athenkosi Thongwana from Duncan Village on Sunday, 29 January.
“I have a doctor’s appointment on Tuesday. It will only be after meeting the doctor that I will be able to know whether I will soon start training or not,” Tshabalala said on Monday.
Tshabalala won the SA title when he stopped Xolisa Magusha from Sada in the fifth round at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC) in March last year. He successfully defended the title with a split decision win over Sikho Moshani from Duncan Village last July.
